Believe it or not I was verifying my theories on DNA mutations and the increased risk over time for mutation in a man’s sperm, vs a woman’s eggs (I had just learned for the first time that a woman is essentially born with all the eggs she will ever have, which is mostly accurate).

So, when in the sidebar I noticed the headline “How playing the drums changes the brain”, that of course got my attention real quick.

Ruhr-University Bochum. “How playing the drums changes the brain: Many years of playing the instrument leave clear traces.” ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 9 December 2019.

The really really interesting thing I learned, is that by practicing drumming for 10 hours a week I can enhance my brain plasticity to bring me up to level playing field with women, who are naturally born with the same enhanced neural pathways as professional drummers who practice an average of 2 hours a day. How crazy is that?

So, with just this one article I now have a definite time schedule for rhythmic self-improvement on a daily basis, together with yet more clear evidence for why music is so vitally important, as if I needed the encouragement…
